Advocates of school reform are paying
increasing attention to the role district leaders can
play in improving schools. District leaders are critical
to creating a vision for student learning. District leaders
can also design professional development systems and incentives
for teachers and school leaders to help realize that vision.
With respect to technology, district leaders can be proactive
in helping schools identify sources of funding and creating
links among standards, assessments, and technology-supported
learning activities in classrooms. We present strategies
that district leaders in Detroit and Chicago have used
to make technology more accessible and integrated into
the curriculum, as well as links to resources for district
leaders.
